Visa officer: Why did you choose your school?

F1 visa applicant: They have the best on campus radio nationwide.

Visa officer: What are you studying?

F1 visa applicant: Journalism.

Visa officer: What will you do after graduating?

F1 visa applicant: Journalism. It's competitive and I am optimistic to find a job home or abroad. There is high request for professional journalist with good degrees.

Visa officer: Who is sponsoring you and financial documents?

F1 visa applicant: (I said my parents and showed my statements). 

Visa officer: How long do you intend to remain in United States?

F1 visa applicant: As long as my major requires of me.

Visa officer: Where did you hear about the school?

F1 visa applicant: Google search.

Visa officer: How many schools did you apply to?

F1 visa applicant: Two schools but only one gave me admission.

Visa officer: Your visa will be ready on Wednesday.

F1 visa applicant: Good morning sir

Visa officer: Good morning. Have you been to the US before?

F1 visa applicant: No

Visa officer: Do you have any relations in the US?

(As long as your immediate family (parents/siblings) are not there, just say NO). They might want to dig up stuffs about them, I guess.

Visa officer:  How did you get information of the schools you applied to?

Visa officer: Who's sponsoring your studies and what's the occupation?

(I made sure I explained my sponsor's occupation/position in glowing terms)

Visa officer: Which other schools did you apply to?

F1 visa applicant: (I mentioned the 4 schools I applied to).

Visa officer: How many admitted you?

F1 visa applicant: (I mentioned the 3 that gave me admission)

Visa officer: Where are the admission letters form other schools?

F1 visa applicant: (Now this question took me off-balance. In fact, I was scared when she looked at me that I didn’t have the other admission letters. . . . but I composed myself and gave this answer) thus ....... “Since I’m only presenting the i-20 of XYZ school, I only brought admission related documents of this school” . . . .(I think she was satisfied, but if you have admission letters from other schools, better take it along. It won't harm).

Visa officer: Why did you choose this particular school?

F1 visa applicant: Their research areas align with areas I want to explore and become more proficient in and the Professors were more open in their email responses (this means you were interacting with them). I actually had 2 names I was ready to mention in case she ask for the Professors names.

Visa officer: What are those areas?

F1 visa applicant: (I mentioned my 3 core areas of interest)

Visa officer: Why those 3 areas?

F1 visa applicant: Those areas are linked to my current job functions which I want to improve on.

Visa officer: So where do you work? 

F1 visa applicant: (I mentioned the company names and what we do; related to my research areas that I mentioned earlier. I also mentioned that I've been there for over 3 years.

Visa officer: Congratulations! Your visa would be ready on Thursday.

F1 visa applicant: Thank you
