K1 visa applicantMy fiancé

Visa Officer: How did you meet him?

K1 visa applicant: We met of a dating App 3 years ago

Visa Officer: When did you start dating?

K1 visa applicant: We started dating a year ago

Visa Officer: Why 2 years before you started dating?

K1 visa applicantIn the beginning it wasn’t serious because I was in a relationship at that time. We just chit chatted once in a while but about a year ago everything started getting serious

Visa Officer: Ok, I see (he typed on his computer)

K1 visa applicant: (waiting for the next question)

Visa Officer: How has it been since then?

K1 visa applicant: Very lovely. We’re a perfect match and we get along very well

Visa Officer: sure?

K1 visa applicant: Yes, sure

Visa Officer: How did he propose to you?

K1 visa applicantHe flew down to here in India to see me late last year. That’s when he proposed to me (I told the visa officer where we went and all that. After telling him my story, he finally smiled for the first time since the interview began)

Visa Officer: Let me see some of the pictures you both took during the outing

K1 visa applicant: (I opened my pictures pack at the side where I have pictures of me and my fiancĂ© together. There were more than 25 pictures but he just glanced through everything and he saw that we were partying throughout the pictures)

Visa officer: Is this party still ongoing?

K1 visa applicant: (I laughed and I told him the party lasted for 5 days which is how long my fiancĂ© stayed when he came to see me)

Visa Officer: Who is Aarya?

K1 visa applicant: (At that point, I was like who the hell is Aarya in my mind but after a few seconds I remembered that Aarya is my fiancĂ©’s mother's name. So, in response, I mentioned her full name so that he’ll know that I actually knew her. LOL

Visa Officer: How did your finance become a US citizen?

K1 visa applicant: (When I answered how he became a US citizen, he said No, his mother who’ve been living in the US for more than 10 years filed for him. I responded that No, it was through XYZ and that the mother's application has been processing for two years now. When I noticed his demeanor changed, I kept quiet and said no more. Not smiling, he asked me to give him a few minutes. He wanted to meet his colleague to discuss my case.

At that moment I was nervous and panicking. After what seemed like forever, he came back, typed a bit on his computer and stood up again and asked that I give him some minutes more. He left for a few minutes and came back)

Visa Officer: Your visa has been approved. It would be ready in two weeks and you should pick it up at DHL office at XYZ address

K1 visa applicant: Thank you

(I was given a pick-up paper and another pack explaining my rights. I was so happy it went well)

My Advice:

Know everything about your fiancĂ© and his/her family.

Be calm and confident during the interview

Tip: If you have a supporting sponsor for affidavit of support, make sure you know who they’re and have them write a letter stating their relationship with you and your fiancĂ© and why they are sponsoring you. VERY IMPORTANT. Many applicants were turned back because they didn’t have it.
